Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the educational implications from the perspective of Plato's law theory. Plato began his career as a philosopher after he had figured out anomie circumstance in Athens and the trial and death of Socrates. He deeply considered the cause of chaos in classical Athens and tried to make a solution by projecting a new polis. He succeeded to the problematic stance of Socrates based on the understanding of the sophist and nomos(laws and customs) and his opinion was related to his major works both Politeia and Nomoi. During the archaic and classical period of ancient Athens, the economic expansion provoked imperialism and the great war against Persia & Sparta hindered continuity of the laws and customs. In the biggest chaotic period, the group of the sophists came to Athens by the help of Pericles. They denied the classical laws & customs and insist ethical relativism and epistemological skepticism. Their tendency on nomos influenced the great booming to the rhetoric which shows their conception on education. Socrates fiercely opposed to the sophistic movements and by using elenchus, he tried to break their opinions. After Socrates Death, Plato succeeded to Socrates' thought in his work Politeia. He figured out kallipolis(best city) proposing the opinion against Thrasymachos & Glaucon on the theory of justice and the myth of Gygges. His theory on law & custom is closely connected his main theory Idea, which is the paradeigma(ideal type & example) followed by citizens habitual and political life. However He didn't persuaded the citizens enough that makes him write his eulogy, the Nomoi. He proposed the idea of prelude to educate the meaning of the written laws to the citizens and the written laws should be the contents for citizens' education.
