‘교육학적’의 용례 분석

Abstract

In this paper I tried to analyze the problem of ambiguity on adjective educational in Korean. By focusing the conceptual study and syntactic analysis, the reasons of lots of meaning of ʻeducationalʼ came out as follows. One reason is the historical background of the science of education in Korea, the other reason is the meaning and function of suffix ‘-적(的)’ which put after nouns and makes the words adjective in Korean. Education can be translated into two Korean Vocabulary the one is science of education and the other is education, and I focused on the former meaning. In Chosun Dynasty, the meaning of education is endless study and research on greatness which can be found in Great Learning(大學). The method of education is reading and confucianism textbook. However in 19th century there were great invasions from western society, and Japanese Imperialism began to start colonize near countries such as Ryuku and Formosa. From this atmosphere, the Korean intellects tried to adopt to western education theory from Japan to exchange educational method from traditional to western and to enhance their power to independent from Japanese Imperialism. For this context, the term science of education in Korea were inclined to practical and were different from the scientific study on education which was similar to the approach of Wissenschaft. Korean suffix ʻ-적ʼ combine after nouns and makes the adjective forms of the nouns. The original meaning of ʻ-적ʼ is target and purpose of something, however it is morphed into the suffix to connect western terminology into the Chinese and Japanese. After in 1890s ʻ-적ʼ was came to Korea for its various utility in sentence structure. The meaning of ʻ-적ʼ is really various and greatness of the word-making ability is so great, it makes a lot of people use the suffix very much. However ʻ-적ʼ has weakness in that it lacks to clarify the meaning of the root noun. Therefore the meaning of educational is so ambiguous and makes lots of problems of understanding and translations.
