다문화 사회에서 ‘연대’(solidarity)개념의 비판적 성찰과 교육의 과제 -하버마스의 이론과 ‘인종주의 비판’의 관점을 중심으로-

초록

본 연구는 이주의 관점에서 기존의 연대 개념의 이해를 비판적으로 성찰하고 연대의 가능성과 한계를 논의함으로써 교육의 과제를 도출하는 것에 그 목적을 두었다. 오늘날 망명과 이주 현상으로 인해 다원화된 사회에서 자문화중심의 제한적 관점은 문제시되고 있고 타자와 함께하는 연대성 교육이 강조되고 있다. 연대는 교육이 추구하는 목표이지만, 그러한 교육이 현실에서 본래의 의도와는 반대로 소수자를 지속적으로 주변인으로 전락되게 만들지는 않는지 부단히 성찰하는 일은 중요하다. 왜냐하면 인종주의를 조성하는 사회 역사적 조건이 지속되는 한, 연대의 이념은 균열될 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 문제의식을 배경으로 본 연구는 먼저 상호 인정의 관계를 합리성에 기반을 둔 이상적인 공동체에서 파악하는 하버마스의 이론을 논의하였다. 하버마스 연대 구상은 다른 사람들과의 대화와 차이의 포용을 강조하고 있지만, 친숙한 사람들 간의 연대의 형태를 은연중에 내포하고 있으며 차이를 ’문화‘의 범주로 규정하고 고착시킬 수 있다. 또한 의사소통공동체 내부에 작용하는 권력구조를 소홀히하는 문제를 지니고 있다. 이런 맥락에서 인종주의 비판의 개념을 살펴보았다. 이 용어는 인종주의를 타파하기 위해 보편적 입장을 견지하되, 인종주의를 비판하는 주체 스스로가 인종주의에 관련하고 있는 측면에 관한 지속적인 성찰을 요청하는 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 인종주의 비판의 관점에서 보면, 연대의 가능성은 불평등한 사회 구조를 간파함으로써 연대의 한계를 인식하는 과정에서 찾을 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 논의로부터 연대의 이상과 현실 간의 불일치의 경험을 공유할 수 있는 교육의 장을 마련하고, 차이와 권력의 밀접한 관계와 연대의 사회적 조건을 항상 고려하고 평등의 이념을 강조하는 것을 교육의 과제로 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to critically reflect on the previous understanding of the concept of solidarity and discuss its possibilities and limitations from the perspective of immigration, thereby identifying tasks for educational purposes. In the present day, society is pluralized owing to asylum and immigration; the limited viewpoint focusing on one's own culture is problematized while the education of solidarity with others is emphasized. Though solidarity is an aim of education, it is critical to unceasingly reflect on whether such education does not marginalize the minorities betraying its original intention. As long as the social and historical conditions that cause racism persist, the idea of solidarity is compromised. Building on such critical awareness, this study first discusses Habermas' theory that identifies the relationship of mutual recognition in an ideal community grounded on rationality. While Habermas' idea of solidarity emphasizes conversations with others and the tolerance of differences, it may implicate a form of solidarity of familiar people unnoticeably and categorize and fixate the difference into 'culture'. Furthermore, it neglects the power structure that works inside the community of communication. This paper explores the concept of the criticism on racism. This concept sustains the universal position to defy racism; yet, it also requests subjects criticizing the racism to constantly reflect on how they themselves are related to the racism. From the critical view of racism, the possibility of solidarity may be found by perceiving its limitations and understanding unequal social structures. Thus, it is suggested that education needs to provide venues for sharing experiences of disparity between the ideal and the reality of solidarity, to examine the social conditions of the close relation of differences, power, and solidarity, and to emphasize the ideology of equality.
