한국과 중국의 대 북한 경제적 영향력 비교:북한의 수출 상품 구조를 중심으로

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze China and South Korea’s economic influence on North Korea by trade leverage. To fulfill this purpose, this article checked out North Korea’s degree of dependence upon foreign trade, the trade relations with China and South Korea which are the two biggest trade partners for North Korea. We can see that South Korea is very important economic partner for North Korea as well as China because South Korea is new trade market for North Korea which has few trade partners on external world market. North Korea’s commodity structures of export to China and South Korea are very similar, and this point suggests the possibility that China and South Korea are alternative markets for North Korea. But empirical data doesn't clearly show this one. This result is because that North Korea doesn’t have stable relations with China and South Korea, and the production fluctuation in North Korea is very severe. In this point, South Korea has leverage to exercise economic influence toward North Korea to solve political issues. However, South Korea should consider the adverse effect to South Korea’s economy, and that this way may be teleological to solve the two Korea’s matters.
