이미지에 드러난 북한체제의 정치커뮤니케이션: 1950~60년대 포스터를 중심으로

Abstract

Since the poster has played the role of symbolizing political communication in the world, particularly in North Korea, it has been major political 'miranda' to show and induce her manipulation and movement toward her people. Thus, exploring the contents of posters painted by North Korea regime from the perspective of socio-cultural context gives the readers the insight of how for North Korea to operate and manipulate her people for making a communist ideal human type and deepen our general understanding of its mechanism, which also help to restore the real daily life of North Korean people. This study aims to articulate the above objective. Exploring contents of posters enables us closer to grasp the better understanding of North Korean society by arguing what happened with why matters in the specific period of 1950~60, on which this study focuses, which leads the readers to the conclusion of how North Korea had struggled with primary missions in terms how to economically overcome the Korean war. In doing so, these posters are categorized into 4 groups of propaganda including political, economic, cultural, mass mobilization. The criteria of how to classify them into 4 categories is done by viewing these posters in the basis of content-analysis. The North Korean posters are made scrupulously for a specific purpose in order to deliver a special message to the mass, which should serve the state-driven policy and the Great Leader’s lessons. For these reasons, to observe these posters from the context of historical background of North Korea enrich us to explore the real life of North Korean people at that times, which had been described only in texts. Visual images will broaden the text-based understanding and help the readers cultivate their abstract knowledge of North Korea into the vivid and concrete expertise.
