Abstract

Recently, the international relations and political environment surrounding North Korea have changed drastically compared to the beginning of the Kim Jong Un regime. Based on the hypothesis that the Kim Jong Un regime would justify the policy by propaganda through academic journals, I have conducted comparative analysis between recently published articles of 『Economic Research』, 『Kim Il-sung University Academic Report』 and those of 2012. In the "Economic Research" published in 2018, the share of agriculture in the real economy sector has decreased while the share of the service sector has increased slightly. In economic policy, the number of papers in the science / information sector has more than doubled, and the papers on management, systems, and financial economics have increased significantly. It is also impressive that the papers cover the topics of various financial economies and introduce overseas cases in detail. In the philosophy / economics section of the 『Kim Il-sung University Academic Report』, the proportion of economics-related papers is increasing compared to philosophy. In the economics sector, the number of articles of "adherence to socialism" tendency has decreased to half and the propaganda method has been eased. On the other hand, science / information related papers have increased, and nine articles on the financial economy that were not in the beginning of the regime were published in the recent issue. The characteristic part is that the fourth 『Kim Il-sung University Academic Report』of 2017, when the international sanctions against North Korea reached its peak, differs from other periods in Period 2. There are four articles of "adherence to socialism" tendency that were little or no published in other periods, and the number of papers related to reform / opening which appeared four times in the previous issue was reduced to one. It is noteworthy that the paper on the financial economy, which has been steadily published in other periods of Period 2, is not seen at all in the fourth 『Kim Il-sung University Academic Report』of 2017. Through this, it can be assumed that the policy importance and concern of the North Korean regime changes according to the social and economic situation of North Korea, and this is immediately reflected in the academic journals of the North Korean elite. Through this study, it can be verified that the policy direction of the Kim Jong Un regime is immediately reflected in the academic journals of the North Korean elites, and it can be concluded that they are justifying the policy.
