이 논문은 최저임금 인상이 노동공급에 미치는 영향을 다양한 노동시장 특성을 고려하여 분석하였다. 분석은 2013년부터 2022년까지 지역별 고용조사 자료를 이용하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최저임금 인상으로 분석기간 동안 경제활동참가 확률이 낮아졌지만, 여성의 노동시장참가 확률은 유의하게 증가했다. 둘째, 코로나19로 사회적 거리두기 시기였던 2020년을 변화 시점으로 구분하여 분석하면, 최저임금 인상은 경제활동참가율과 노동시장참가율 모두 증가시켰다. 여기서 남성 청년층과 중장년층의 경제활동참가율은 감소했지만, 30대 이상 여성의 경제활동참가율과 노동시장참가율이 증가했다. 이에 따라 향후 인구감소로 노동력이 부족해지는 경우 최저임금 인상이 여성의 노동시장 진입에 긍정적인 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the impact of minimum wage hikes on labor supply by considering various labor market characteristics. The analysis is based on regional employment surveys from 2013 to 2022. The results of the analysis are as follows First, the minimum wage hike decreased the probability of economic activity participation over the analysis period, but significantly increased the probability of female labor market participation. Second, the minimum wage hike increased both the economic activity participation rate and the labor market participation rate, starting from 2020, which was a period of social distancing due to COVID-19. Here, the economic activity participation rate of young men and middle-aged men decreased, but the economic activity participation rate and labor market participation rate of women over 30 increased. This suggests that raising the minimum wage could play a positive role in encouraging women to enter the labor market if labor shortages occur due to population decline in the future.
