Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine influence of contextual interference effect on students' golf chip shot learning and to provide more effective methods for teaching various students who have different level of motivation. The subjects were 54 middle school male students. According to the test of motivation level, 54 subjects randomly allocated to either a highly motivated group or a low motivated group(each 9 block practice condition students, 9 random practice condition students and 9 gradual practice conditions). The task used in this research was golf chip shot task. Before acquisition phase, all subjects participated in the pilot test. There were no differences in golf chip shot skill between six groups after analysing the data from pilot test. The experiment was carried out 2(motivation level) × 3(practice condition) × 6(block) factorial design with repeated measures on the last factor for acquisition test and 2 × 3 × 3 factorial design with repeated measures on last factor for retention and transfer test. The following results presented. First, the high motivated-gradual practice condition group did most effective performance in acquisition phase and high-motivated group was more effective than low-motivated group at motivation level. Moreover, gradual and block practice condition groups were more effective than random practice condition group. Second, according to immediately retention phase' interaction of motivation × blocks, high-motivated level group was more effective than low-motivated group and high-motivated level group displayed significant effect during acquisition phase. In main effect analysis, gradual practice condition group more effective than random and block practice condition group and random practice condition group more effective than block practice condition group. Finally transfer test also revealed that main effect analysis had same result with immediately retention phase. Even though this study showed that there was no interaction between motivation level and practice condition, the study revealed that gradual practice condition was most effective method to learn golf chip shot skill.
