우리나라 대학의 사고력 및 표현력 관련 기초 교양과목의 현황과 발전 방안 연구－동덕여자대학교 1학년 기초 교양 필수 과목 운용을 중심으로－

근래에 들어서 대학 교육에서 기초 교양의 중요성이 새롭게 부각되고 있다. 사고력 및 표현력과 관련된 기초 교양 과목들이 최근 각 대학마다 새롭게 개설되어 강의가 이루어지고 있는 것이다. 더욱이 그것들은 21세기의 기초 교양 패러다임의 전환을 모색하는 가운데 새롭게 시행이 되는 만큼 각 대학마다 나름의성과를 이루어 가고 있다. 그런데 이루어 놓은 성과만큼이나 개선해야 할 문제점들 또한 여러 측면에서 노정되고 있어, 그들 과목들에 대한 발전적인 대안 마련의 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 우리 나라 대학들에서 시행되고 있는 사고력 및 표현력과 관련된 기초 교양 과목의 교육 현황을 조사․분석하고 동덕여자대학교의 교양 필수 과목인 <독서와 토론>, <발표와 토론>의 경우를 기본 사례로 그것의 개선과발전 방안을 찾아보았다. 개선과 발전을 위해서 과목 자체의 내용 개발과 질적․양적인 수준을 제고시켜야 할 강의 담당자들의 노력은 물론이거니와, 이를 뒷받침할 수 있는, 과목운영과 관련된 여러 학사 및 행정적 제도의 개선에 대한 학교 당국의 적극적인노력이 뒷받침되어야 한다. 이러한 당위적인 의식을 전제로 하면서 보다 구체적인 차원에서 과목 영역의 세분화와 시수의 확대, 담당 교원의 전문성 확보, 교과목 운영을 위한 독립 기구의 설치, 교원의 지위와 처우 개선, 보조적 인력의 확충 등의 발전 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
In the field of core curriculum at colleges, a new change and trialhave been taken place in this country since 2000. That is theemergence of a new curriculum for improvement of college students’ability to think and express. It has made great achievements despiteits limitations in the course of its development. There has, however,been no full-scale study on this area. In this article, we investigated the actual state of the corecurriculum such as in Korea, pointed out some of its problems, andsuggested the ways to develop its contents and management. For this,we checked into the reality of education and management at DongdukWomen’s University, and carried out surveys with the concerned whotaught and studies this field in Korea. From these investigations, we realized that the programs needuniversities’ considerable investment to reform the scholarly andmanagerial systems related to as well as instructors’ endeavor todevelop its contents and to do its qualitative and quantitativeimprovement. For these, we suggested these as the reform measures:subdivision of the curriculum, increase of credit hours, security ofinstructors’ professionalism, establishment of independent center forthis curriculum, improvement of instructors’ status and treatment, andexpansion of teaching assistants.
