본고에서는 대학 글쓰기 교육의 ‘제2의 도약’을 위한 한 방안으로 논의되고 있는WAC 프로그램의 도입과 그 실현가능한 운영방안을 모색하기 위해 한 사례를 제시하고자 했다. 그간 미국의 유수 대학들이 운영하고 있는 WAC 프로그램에 대한 논의와 국내 도입의 필요성이 제기된 바 있지만 대학 글쓰기 교육의 일환으로 ‘안착’시키는 데 성공한 대학은 찾아보기 힘든 것이 사실이다. 본고에서는 국내 대학의 글쓰기 교육에서 WAC 프로그램을 운영하고자 할 때 고려할 사항을 바탕으로 프로그램의 도입과 운영을 위해 운영 주체의 문제와 그 체계화를 위한 논의에 초점을 맞추었다. ‘글쓰기상담실’이 주체가 되어 교과의 글쓰기 과제물에 대해 1)상담지도, 2)수업 내 글쓰기 특강, 3)글쓰기 특강 및 상담 지도 등의 3가지 유형으로 WAC 프로그램을 지원하는 방안을 도출했다. 그리고 프로그램 운영의 절차와 그 구체적인 운영방법의 체계화에 대해 논의하였다. 이때 프로그램 운영 주체는 교수와 학습자 양자의 교수-학습과정에서 ‘상담’ 제공을 통해 글쓰기교육의 만족도를 높이는 것이 중요하다. 이를 바탕으로 글쓰기 환경을 조성하여 그 저변을 확대한다면 교수와 학생들의글쓰기교육의 필요성과 인식의 제고가 이루어질 수 있을 것이다. 그 힘으로 이후WAC 인증제 등의 제도 도입에 대한 논의가 가능할 것이라 기대한다.
Abstract
In this paper, we tried to present an example to insist on the necessity of introducing the WAC program, which is being discussed as a way to ‘take the second leap’ of college writing education, and to explore feasible operational methods. Most of the universities offer writing-related subjects to their freshmen in the form of basic or liberal arts. However, despite the necessity and demand for the major academic writing education of the upper grades after entering the major, it is a reality that it can not present appropriate alternatives. Although there has been a debate on the WAC program operated by leading universities in the United States and the necessity of introducing it in Korea, it is hard to find a university that succeeded in establishing it as part of university writing education. This paper focused on discussing the subject of operating the program and its system for introducing and operating the program based on considerations when operating the WAC program in writing education at domestic universities. As writing counseling lab became the main body, we drew three types of ‘SNU-WAC’ program support: 1) writing tutoring, 2) special lecture on writing in class, 3) special lecture on writing and writing tutoring. The specific methods of operation are dynamic and diverse in each subject. Most important of all, it is to enhance the satisfaction of writing education in the course of professors and students. If the WAC program creates a writing environment and expands the base, it could raise the need and awareness of writing education for professors and students. With that power, institutional discussions such as the WAC certification system will be possible
