비판적 사고 기술을 자기중심적으로 사용하거나 자신이 속한 집단 위주로 사용하는 태도는 보통 부지불식간에 또는 집단의 이익을 위해 어쩔 수 없다는 식으로 용인된다. 이처럼 논리적 사고 기술만 익힌다고 해서 훌륭한 비판적 사고자가 될 수 있는 것은 아니고, 논리적 사고 기술 위주의 교육이 비판적 사고 교육의 본래 취지에 부합하는 것도 아니다. 훌륭한 비판적 사고자란 비판적으로사고하려는 성향까지 겸비한 사람을 말한다. 이들의 주된 특징은 공정하게 사고하려는 마음을 갖추고 있다는 것이다. 그들은 생각을 분석하고 평가하고 개선하는 과정에서 비판적 사고의 표준들을 공정성 표준에 일치시키려고 노력한다. 이러한 측면에서 필자는 기존에 간과되어 온 공정성 표준이 비판적 사고 성향에중요한 역할을 한다고 주장한다(2장). 이를 뒷받침하기 위해서 청년들의 아르바이트에 대해서 있을 법한 생각들을 비판적 사고의 9표준에 적용해 보인 다음(3 장), 9표준과 공정성 표준이 서로 어떻게 관련을 맺을 수 있는지를 보였다(4장).
Abstract
The attitude of using critical thinking skills in a self-centered or group-oriented manner is usually accepted, either unknowingly or as something that cannot be helped for the benefit of the group. Just learning logical thinking skills like this does not mean you can become a great critical thinker, and education that focuses on logical thinking skills does not meet the original purpose of critical thinking education. A good critical thinker is someone who also has the inclination to think critically. Their main characteristic is their willingness to think fairly. They strive to align standards of critical thinking with standards of fairness as they analyze, evaluate, and improve ideas. In this respect, I argue that fairness standard, which have been previously overlooked, plays an important role in critical thinking disposition (Chapter 2). To support this, we applied the 9 standards of critical thinking to young people’s thoughts about part-time jobs (Chapter 3) and then showed how fairness standard can be applied to each of the 9 standards (Chapter 4).
