다문화사회에서 적극적이고 능동적인 삶을 살아가기 위해서는 무엇보다도 문제 해결 능력을 개발하는 것이 필요하다. 인간이 자신의 삶을 설계하고 미래에 잘 대처하기 위해서는 단순히 지식을 암기하는 것만으로는 부족하고 현실을 직시하고 자신이 어떤 상황에 있는가를 정확하게 파악하는 것이 필요하다고 생각한다. 그런데 이런 능력의 핵심은 비판적으로 사고하는 데 있기 때문에 비판적 사고를 기르기 위한 교육의 본질을 파악하는 일은 무엇보다 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 그래서 이 논문에서는 쟁점을 중심으로 교육의 이상적인 목적 가운데 하나인 비판적 사고란 무엇이며, 비판적 사고의 구성 요소는 무엇인가를 분석한 다음, 비판적 사고를 증진하는 방안을 모색하였다. 특히 기술과 능력, 그리고 성향의 측면에서 비판적 사고의 의미를 밝히고, 사고의 기술과 비판정신의 측면에서 비판적 사고의 구성 요소를 규명하고, 비판적 사고 능력을 기를 수 있는 방안을 탐색하였다.
Abstract
It is often thought that in a multi-cultural democratic society, where individuals are expected to be able to chart their own courses in life, the ability to think thoroughly about all kinds of concerns is an essential attribute and one to be cultivated. Making informed judgements about one’s personal affairs would seem to be desirable and expected outcome of any education in such a society. To be a critical thinker is an ideal aim of education in modern society. So in this paper what is education for critical thinking as an aim is discussed. At first, what is critical thinking is defined from the viewpoint of good judgements and valid reasons. Secondly, the components of critical thinking is discussed on the basis of critical spirit and thinking skills. And finally, method of teaching to be critical is suggested with the strategy to increase thinking skills.
