본 연구는 창작오페라 ‘칼레아 부탈소로’의 10인 주요 캐릭터를 대상으로, 성격 분석 기반의 체계적 무대분장디자인 방법론을 개발하고 구체적 디자인을 제안하였다. 연구방법으로는 대본⋅악보⋅시놉시스 분석을 통해 각 인물의 성격적 특성과 관계성을 도출하고, 이를 바탕으로 디자인 프로세스를 구축하였다. 연구 결과, 10인 캐릭터는선의 상징(3인), 악의 상징(3인), 사이보그(2인), 신적 존재(2인)의 4개 유형으로 분류되었으며, 유형별 차별화된 분장 원칙이 도출되었다. 각 인물에 대해 Base, Eye, Blusher & Lip, Painting의 4개 구역별 상세 디자인을 제시하고, 생성형 AI 도구를 활용하여 시각화하였다. 본 연구는 창작오페라 무대분장 디자인의 체계적 방법론을 제시하고, 실무 적용 모델을 구축하며, 한국 창작오페라의 시각 자료를 제시함으로써 학술적⋅실무적 기여를 이루었다. 이는 무대분장을 학술적 연구 영역으로 격상시키고, 창작 공연물의 시각 디자인 발전에 실질적 가이드라인을 제공한다는 데 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study developed a systematic stage makeup design methodology based on character personality analysis and proposed specific designs for ten main characters in the original Korean opera Kalea Butalsoro. The research methodology involved analyzing librettos, musical scores, and synopses to derive each character’s personality traits and relationships, upon which a design process was established. The results showed that the ten characters were classified into four types: symbols of good (3 characters), symbols of evil (3 characters), cyborgs (2 characters), and divine beings (2 characters), with differentiated makeup principles derived for each type. Detailed designs were presented for each character across four facial zones—Base, Eye, Blusher & Lip, and Painting—and visualized using generative AI tools. This study contributes academically and practically by presenting a systematic methodology for original opera stage makeup design, establishing a practical application model, and providing visual materials for Korean original opera. It is significant in elevating stage makeup to an academic research field and providing practical guidelines for visual design development in original performances.
