Abstract
This study investigates changes in pre-service teachers’ perceptions of teachers before and after taking the Introduction to Education course, interpreted through the lens of the vocational calling view of teaching. Thirty education students from S University participated in open-ended surveys administered at the beginning and end of the semester. Teacher-related keywords were extracted and analyzed using frequency analysis and network text analysis. Before the course, participants predominantly associated teachers with affective and moral images such as ‘parent’, ‘guide’, ‘love’, and ‘sacrifice’, reflecting a relational and virtue-centered perception consistent with the vocational calling view. After the course, central keywords such as ‘education’, ‘responsibility’, ‘expert’, ‘growth’, and ‘creativity’ emerged, indicating a shift toward recognizing teachers as reflective practitioners who integrate ethical commitment with professional expertise. Community cohesion analysis revealed that conceptual clusters decreased from eight to four, suggesting convergence in perception. The findings highlight the role of Introduction to Education as a transformative space that fosters integrated teacher identity formation at the intersection of moral vocation and professional practice.
