Abstract
This study performed a comparative analysis of two GwandongByeolgoks authored by Ahn-Chuk(安軸) and Jung-Cheol(鄭澈). By focusing on the key personae, Dogaek(徒客, follower) and Jeokseon(謫仙, banished immortal) figures that function as poetic personae of the authors this study sought to identify points of contact and divergence between the two homonymous texts. The goal was to explore themes of each text and the emotional state of its speaker. This study examined the historical and psychological contexts surrounding each work’s creation, analyzing how the authors reinterpreted or transformed various classical allusions(典故) to construct poetic identities. Chapter 2 examines the emotional posture of the authors-speakers, as inferred from the context of each work’s composition, alongside their implication of a sense of responsibility and inner resentment. Chapter 3 interprets the symbolic expressions and historical figures such as “hairpin and shoes(簪履),” “Yeok I-gi(酈食其),” “abandoned retainer(孤臣),” and “Geup Am(汲 黯).” These elements represent the authors’ self-awareness and redefine the compound personae of Dogaek and Jeokseon as core poetic identities representing the desire to return to the Royal Court within each work. By investigating the multifaceted meanings of classical allusions, skillfully employed by both authors, this study enriches and explores the complex meanings of the two GwandongByeolgok texts, proposing political interpretations grounded in the poetic personae of “Dogaek” and “Jeokseon.”
