Abstract

This research interviewed 8 students with hearing impairment, 3 sign language interpreters, 3 regular education teachers, and one special educational teacher to study on reality and future direction of inclusion for students with hearing impairment of highschool with sign language interprets, and results are following. First, in characteristics of hearing impairment inclusion there was different expectation between teachers and hearing impaired students. Teachers were inclined to think that their social integration was possible and educational integration was difficult. But students with hearing impairment wanted educational integration that they could understand the instruction. Second, the characteristics of inclusion of students with hearing impairment through educational interpreting was interpreters, students, teachers/instruction variables. In interpreter variables the necessary abilities to educational interpreter were understanding the instruction, interpretation language usage according to objects of interpretation, accuracy and speed of interpretation, interpretation techniques, awareness of educational interpreter's role and communication with teachers about instruction. In students' variables important factor was student's motivation degree to the instruction. Important factor of teachers/instruction variables were that teachers instructed with the same achievement standards to hearing and students with hearing impairment and instructing according to interpreters' difficulty. Third, future directions for efficient inclusion for students with hearing impairment were legislating the educational sign language interpreting, correct awareness of educational interpreter's role, identification securement of students with hearing impairment, strengthening of oral communication through residual hearing, strengthening regular education teachers' responsibilities for school achievement of students with hearing impairment, reconstructing the school for students with hearing impairment and management of itinerant teacher.
