Abstract
The purpose of this study is to search for a practical alternative by recognizing the importance of experience of disclosing the event among child victims of sexual abuse and exploring experiences of children who exposed the event voluntarily. To do so, based on the research problem, ‘What are the meaning and essence of experience of disclosing the event among child victims of sexual abuse?,’ purposive sampling was used in this study. Subsequently, six children who voluntarily exposed their experience of sexual abuse were analyzed by using a phenomenological qualitative method. In the result, 12 themes were categorized and a total of 5 central meanings were identified. The central meanings of experience among victims of disclosing events related to sexual abuse were: <Being confined in my own secret>, <Watching reaction of other people>, <Taking courage to stop>, <Confusing facts with story>, and <Feeling shame and guilt>. The findings in this study provide an opportunity to accumulate information related to event disclosure, which is the starting point of therapy for child victims of sexual abuse and a key to disclosing the event, and are meaningful as basic practical data. Based on the findings, in Conclusion and Proposals, this study discussed various practical proposals to improve the rate of event disclosure among child victims of sexual abuse and sensitivity in the intervention processes.
