Abstract
Non-suicidal self-injury among teenagers is emerging as a serious social problem, so it is necessary to identify the influencing factors and devise intervention strategies. Therefore, this study aims to verify the influence of negative parenting attitude on non-suicidal self-injury among teenage children and the moderated mediating effect of anxiety according to the child’s gender as a mechanism. This study utilized a sample of 5,748 adolescents from the raw data of the Teenagers Mental Health Survey for data analyses, and used the PROCESS Macro models. The results of the analysis showed that when the level of negative parenting attitude increased, the likelihood of non-suicidal self-injury among teenage children increased. In addition, a partial mediating effect of negative parenting attitude on non-suicidal self-injury through anxiety among teenage children was found. In addition, the mediating effect of negative parenting attitude on non-suicidal self-injury through anxiety was more pronounced for female adolescents than for male adolescents. On the other hand, the direct effect of negative parenting attitude on non-suicidal self-injury did not differ between male and female adolescents. Based on the above analysis results, this study discusses various ways for intervening in the non-suicidal self-injury problem of teenagers.
