혁명과 반동, 그리고 김수영－4·19혁명과 김수영의 정치의식－

본고는 4·19혁명의 전국면 속에서 김수영이 당시의 기본 정세를 어떻게 이해했으며, 당대가 제기한 민주주의와 민족문제, 통일문제 등에 어떤 견해를 가졌고 그가 현실의 혁명을 꿈꾸었다면 그 주체와 전략은 어떤 것이었는가를 고찰함으로써 김수영의 혁명 이후 1960년대의 시세계, 나아가 그의 시적 유토피아의 본질에 대한 이해를 증진시키는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 시기에 김수영은 사상적으로는 급진자유주의적 경향과 사회주의적 경향을 함께 지니고 있었으며 현실적으로는 정치세력의 반동성과 한계를 일찌감치 인식했으면서도 그들에 대해서 민주적 제요구들을 계속 제기해 나가는 한편 노동자, 농민, 학생 등에 대해서는 기대를 접지 않고 혁명이 지속되기를 갈망하였다. 이는 그가 당대에 전개되고 있던 노동·농민운동과 반외세운동, 통일운동 등의 전개를 예의 주시하면서 당대 한국 현실의 세계사적 보편성을 부단히 사유하고 있었기 때문에 가능한 인식이라고 할 수 있으며 그의 추상적인 사회주의적 지향이 제3세계적 민족민주혁명론으로 한 걸음 더 구체화된 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 김수영은 단순히 혁명에 열광하고 반동에 분노하는 통상적인 인식을 넘어서서 비록 정치적 실천의 행동에 나서지는 않았더라도 당시의 기본 정세를 비교적 정확히 파악하고 있었으며 4·19혁명의 과제가 단지 독재자를 쫓아내는 것이 아니라 반외세 민족민주혁명이며 분단체제의 극복이라는 것, 그리고 그 주체는 민중이라는 것 등을 올바로 파악하고 있었던 것으로 보인다. 다만 그의 정치의식은 그러한 상황인식을 넘어서 과학적이고 객관적으로 혁명의 주 객관적 조건들을 인식하고 혁명운동의 주체적 경로를 모색하는 데까지는 이르지 못했고 또한 직접적인 사회적 행동에는 참여하지 않은 것으로 보인다. 그 대신 그는 그 자신의 이러한 불완전성과 객관정세가 보여주는 혁명의 불완전성, 혹은 실패를 시를 통한 “절대적 완전”의 추구로 극복하고자 하였으며 자신을 고독한 영구혁명의 주체로 삼는 실존적 기투를 통해 그 과제를 실현해 나가고자 하였다.
Abstract
This thesis aims to increase understanding of Kim Soo-Young's poetry world considering how he understood the political situations, what were his opinions on the problems of democracy, nation, and national unification in the period of April 19th Revolution. In that period, he had two inclinations-one was radical liberalism, the other was socialism. And he opposed democratic demands to the political parties as well as he eagerly wanted the revolution to go ahead with labors, peasants and students. His attention to the widespread of various social movement, that is labor-peasant movement, anti-imperialist movement, national unification movment, and his reflection on the world historic universality of contemperary aspects of Korea made it possible. And it was the result of his transformation of political vision from abstract socialism to the third world national-democratic revolution. He seemed to overcome plain stage of revolutionary enthusiasm and go further to know that the task of April 19th Revolution is not simply expelling a dictator but the completion of anti-emperialist national democratic revolution and termination of the national division system, and the subject of the task is people. But his political consciousness couldn't go furthermore to recognize revolutionary process scientifically and he didn't engage in direct social actions. Instead, he eagerly want to overcome his own limit and imperfection or fail of the revolution by pursuing of 'absolute perfection' through poetry, and to realise the task by the existential project that make himself as the subject of the solitary eternal revolution.
