대만의 한국학 연구 상황과 미래 전망

Abstract

Taiwan and Korea are not only geographically adjacent neighbors, but also share a long historical exchange and cultural base. Particularly, being crucial members of East Asia, they have a common near-modern historical experience of colonialism and the Cold War. Due to this relationship, there has been an exchange between the two countries from an early age, and Korean studies have been conducted accordingly. The paper divides the Korean studies in Taiwan after liberation into three periods, examines the research focus and trends of each period, and predicts future studies based on the interpretation of the main characteristics of each period, summarized as follows. First, from the 1950s to the 1970s during the Cold War period, mainly based on the necessity of anti-communist solidarity, the focus was on the study of the ancient history of Korea and the relationship between the modern anti-Japanese independence movement and China. Second, from the 1980s to the 2000s, research on Korean language and Korean literature was initiated by experts trained through the Department of Korean Language and Literature. Third, from the 2000s to the present, the focus was on Korean language education as a foreign language to meet the Korean language learning demand triggered by the rapid spread of the Korean Wave, and overall research on the Korean cultural industry.
