수출이 고용과 생산성 성장에 미치는 효과 : 제조업 분야의 기업자료 분석

Effects of export on the growth of employment and productivity: Evidence from firm-level data in manufacturing sector

초록

본 연구는 수출활동, 업력, 규모, 모기업 보유여부와 같은 개별 기업의 특성을 반영하여 한국 제조기업의 국제화활동이 고용과 생산성 성장에 미친 효과를 세계금융위기 이전과 이후 기간으로 나누어 비교분석했다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, TFP의 경우 금융위기 이전에는 수출비중이 높거나 수출경험이 있는 기업이 더 성장했다. 둘째, 고용의 경우는 수출경험에 영향을 받지 않는다. 다만 연속변수로 교차작용을 반영했을 때 수출비중이 높으면서 종사자가 많은 기업인 경우 고용 증가율이 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 신생수출기업은 금융위기 이전에는 TFP의 증가율이 높게, 금융위기 이후에는 고용의 증가율이 높게 관찰되었다. 넷째, 모기업이 있는 종속기업은 모기업이 없는 독립기업에 비해 금융위기 이전에는 TFP와 고용 모두 성장하는 것으로 나타났으나 금융위기 이후에는 TFP만 유의미한 성장세가 나타났다.

Abstract

Taking into account export, size, age, and ownership structure, we examine the determinants of firm growth in terms of employment and productivity during the period of 2006 to 2013, using Korean firm- level data. The main findings are as follows. First, firms with higher export share or export experiences showed a faster growth in TFP than others, only before the year 2009 of global financial crisis. Second, firms with both higher export share and larger employment size at the same time showed a faster growth in employment for the entire period, than others. Third, young exporting firms showed a faster growth in TFP before the financial crisis and a faster growth in employment after the financial crisis, than others. Fourth, when we considered both export experience and parent firm in the firm growths, export experience lost its explanatory power for the growth. Instead, firms with parent firms showed a faster growth in TFP and employment before the financial crisis, than those without. They continued to grow only in terms of TFP after the financial crisis.
