우리나라는 수출주도의 경제성장을 이룬 국가로 최근 수출 및 고용시장 악화에 대한 우려가 높다. 이러한 가운데, 본 연구는 기업의 수출활동변동이 고용에 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 대해 기업체 패널데이터를 활용해 고정효과모형과 동태패널모형으로 분석하였다. 내수기업을 기준집단으로 설정하고비교할 때 수출지속기업, 수출시작기업이 고용에 양의 효과를 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 수출지속기업이 수출시작기업보다 고용에 미치는 효과가 더 크게 나타났다. 그리고 수출중단기업은 고용에미치는 효과가 통계적으로 유의하지 않게 나타났다. 이러한 실증분석 결과는 Görg and Spaliara(2014)가제시한 수출활동 관련 함몰비용(sunk costs of export entry)과 수출중단기업의 성과 열위(performance disadvantages)로 설명이 가능하다. 특히, 글로벌 금융위기 기간 추가적인 영향에 대해 분석한 결과, 비수도권에 위치한 기업은 글로벌 금융위기 기간 수출중단은 오히려 고용에 음(-)의 영향을 주는것으로 나타나, 해외의 부정적인 충격은 수도권 지역에 위치한 기업과 비수도권 지역에 위치한 기업에게 비대칭적인 충격을 주는 것으로 판단된다. 즉, 글로벌 금융위기 동안 비수도권 지역에 위치한기업의 수출중단은 고용 감소를 초래하는 것으로 나타나, 수도권과 비수도권의 고용 양극화를 유발할 수 있다.
Abstract
This paper analyzes the effect of export dynamics on employment using the firm-level panel dataset of South Korea manufacturing firms from 2006 to 2017. We employ the fixed effect model and system GMM to estimate the effect of different export dynamic status on the employment of firms. We find the effects of continuous exporters and starters on employment of firms are positive, which indicating that they are more likely to perform well than non-exporters with respect to the employment growth. To capture the additional effect of the global financial crisis, we interact the different status of exporting with the crisis dummy and find that the negative effect of exiters on employment of firms located in non-metropolitan regions, in particular during global financial crisis. This indicates the asymmetric effect of the external shock on the employment of firms from export market exit during crisis years between metropolitan areas and non-metropolitan regions.
