본 연구는 문화다양성에 대한 올바른 인식과 문화다양성 역량에 대한 필요성에 주목하여 학생 및 교사의 문화다양성 개념 인식 및 문화다양성 역량 실태를 분석하고, 향후 문화다양성 역량 증진을 위한 교수학습에의 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 도출된 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교수학습 콘텐츠 개발 및 구성 측면에서는 문화다양성에 대한 올바른 이해와 흥미를 유발하기 위한 자료 개발에 초점을 두어야 한다. 둘째, 교수학습 방법적 측면에서는 자문화에 대한 긍정적 태도 육성과 타 문화에 대한 존중과 함께 타 문화에 속한 사람들과 상호작용을 활발하게 할 수 있는 문화 간 소통 역량 강화에 강조점을 두어야 한다. 셋째, 학교급별 교수학습 방안에서는 추상적․정신적 영역에 대한 학생의 인지 발달 단계와 자신감 및 적극성 등 정서적 영역에서 청소년기의 민감성을 고려하여 차별화된 방안을 모색해야 한다. 문화다양성 역량과 같이 새롭게 강조되거나 범교과적인 교육 내용에 대해서는 교사를 위한 다양한 지원이 필요하다. 교사가 문화다양성 역량을 갖출 수 있도록 지원해야 하며, 학생들의 문화다양성 역량 함양을 위해 수업을 계획․운영할 수 있는 전문성에 대한 지원도 필요하다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to seek teaching and learning strategies to improve cultural diversity competence in our school education and to come up with policies to support cultural diversity education. We defined the concept of cultural diversity by analyzing the previous research. According to UNESCO Universal Declaration of Cultural Diversity, cultural diversity is necessary for humankind as biodiversity is for nature. This is the main source of exchange works in humankind, renovation and creativity and a factor for sustainable development and the heritage to be shared for all mankind. In this study, Cultural Diversity Competence is defined in three domains; In cognitive domain, " to be aware of the importance of diverse culture and coexistence ", in affective domain, "to believe cultural diversity makes creativity and sustainability in our society" and "to work on cultural exchange". In this study, a survey on the awareness and competence of cultural diversity was done for elementary and middle school teachers and students(sixth graders and 3rd graders in middle schools). The educational implication in this study are as follows. First, when working on teaching and learning contents, teachers need to students’ interests and have proper understanding on cultural diversity. Second, when working on programs to enhance cultural diversity competence, it would be desirable to appreciate our own cultural identity and add appropriate contents by analyzing other cultures. Third, in respect of ways for cultural diversity education, we need to focus on cross cultural communication competence and also consider affective and cognitive domain. Teachers' awareness and attitude of our own culture and awareness of cultural diversity showed similar to that of students. For the actual condition of cultural diversity education, we found that it is hard to say there is proper cultural diversity education in our schools. There were demands on teacher training in the area of cultural diversity.
