이 연구는 국내 초ㆍ중등 교사들이 우리 사회의 문화다양성과 관련하여 어떤 태도를 가지고 있으며, 교사들의 문화다양성 태도가 다문화가정 학생에 대한 태도와 어떻게 연관되는지를 확인하고자 한 연구이다. 이를 위해 전국 7개 지역 초 · 중 · 고등학교에 재직 중인 교사 894명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 수행하였다. 이 연구에서 문화다양성 태도는 인종 및 민족 다양성에 대한 인지적, 정의적, 행동적 차원을 포괄하며, 다문화가정 학생에 대한 태도는 다문화가정 학생에 대한 관심, 수용, 배려, 기대를 말한다. 문화다양성 태도에서 교사 집단별 차이를 확인한 결과, 성별로는 여자 교사 집단, 연령별로는 30대 교사 집단, 학교 소재지별로는 읍면지역 교사, 학교급별로는 초등 교사 집단이 문화다양성 태도의 일부 영역에서 다른 집단에 비해 더 긍정적인 태도를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 다문화가정 학생을 가르쳐본 경험이 있는 교사들이 그렇지 않은 교사 집단에 비해 문화다양성 영역 전체에서 더 긍정적인 태도를 가지고 있었으며, 다문화교사 교육을 받은 경험이 있는 교사들이 그렇지 않은 교사들에 비해 인지적 영역에서 더 긍정적인 반응을 나타냈다. 한편, 회귀 분석 결과, 교사의 문화다양성 태도가 다문화가정 학생들에 대한 교사의 태도에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있음이 드러났다. 이러한 결과에 기초하여 우리들은 현직 교사 및 예비 교사를 위한 다문화교육의 확대 실시 및 다양한 문화에 대한 정보를 제공할 수 있는 자료의 개발이 시급히 이루어져야 할 필요성을 제기하였다.
Abstract
The purposes of this research are to identify the various aspects of teachers' attitude on cultural diversity and to verify the its relationship with their attitude on students from multicultural families. For this purpose, we conducted the survey on 894 elementary and secondary school teachers. In this study the concept of attitude on cultural diversity includes three elements; know, emotion, and action. And attitude on students from multicultural families means teachers' interests, acceptance, care, expectation on them. According to our survey, female teachers, teachers in their 30s, and teachers from rural area located school and elementary school have more positive attitude on cultural diversity. Second, teachers who have experiences to teach students from multicultural families and to get some multicultural teacher education are more positive especially on 'know' aspects. Third, teachers' multicultural attitude tends to have a positive impact on the teachers' attitude on students from multicultural families. On the base of these results we suggest that multicultural teacher education program must be developed and implemented for pre-service and in-service teachers. And it's also needed to develop multicultural materials for teachers to give information on diverse cultural groups in our society.
