‘완전’의 문법 층위의 의미와 화용 층위의 의미 기능 -구어 말뭉치 분석을 중심으로-
A Study on the Semantic Function in the Grammatical and Pragmatic Levels of “wan-jeon”: An Analysis of a Spoken Corpus

This study aims to examine the various semantic functions of “wan-jeon” through corpus analysis. Most of the discussions on “wan-jeon” have been biased toward considerations of the identity of its categorial status and the linguistic validity of terms from a perspective regarding parts-of-speech; there has been a relative lack of descriptions of its various meanings and functions. With this research question in mind, this study aimed to look at the various semantic aspects of “wan-jeon” that function on grammatical and pragmatic levels. Grammatically, “wan-jeon” is reinforced in some cases by nominality, determinality and adverbiality. The adverbiality can be divided into two categories depending on the properties of the modificands of “wan-jeon” and how far the meaning of “wan-jeon” in the utterance is used in the prototypical sense: measurable adverbiality and degree adverbiality. Finally, “wan-jeon” reveals the speaker’s high interest and positive attitude toward the discourse or content matters on pragmatic levels. Results also show that this term carries out a strategic function on discourse such as maintenance of utterances, attention, and topic initiation.
