Abstract

This study aimed to design a metaverse-based space for discussion-oriented teaching and learning using the ZEP platform and to examine its educational validity and feasibility. Unlike prior research that primarily emphasized temporary engagement, this study structured spaces around pedagogical needs, emphasizing learner participation and moderator roles. The proposed design comprised five universal spaces and four specialized spaces dedicated to discussion practices, which were refined through a literature review, teacher focus group interviews, usability testing, and expert evaluation. The results suggest that the metaverse-based space effectively promotes interaction and visualization of discussion procedures and offers an environment for practicing various discussion formats. Teaching and learning spaces in the metaverse may offer innovative educational solutions, especially for schools facing spatial constraints.
