The purpose of this paper is to reveal the power of epic and to establish the methodology of literary therapy on the basis of the power of epic. The results of this paper are as follows. First, from the viewpoint of understanding, the core of literature is epic. All the literary works of the other genres are interpreted through epic. Second, the power of epic is exercised in several ways. The epic of literary work gives us a hint that can help to solve the problem, or makes us regret our mistakes, or makes us perceive a truth. Third, the methodology of literary therapy is established. The core of the methodology is that the epic of literary work changes the epic of self. There are three grades of process changing the epic of self through the epic of literary work. At first grade, the epic of literary work supplements the epic of self, at second grade, strengthens the epic of self, and at third grade, unifies the epic of self.
