고전시가 평설에 나타난 감상의 즐거움

이 논문은 문학의 중요한 효용 중 하나인 즐거움의 본질이 어디에 있으며, 또한 이러한 즐거움을 풍부히 누릴 수 있는 방법이 어떠해야 하는가에 대한 질문에서 비롯되었다. 이러한 질문에 대한 해답은 여러 장르의 작품에 대한 다양한 수준에서의 감상을 종합하고, 이를 이론적으로 논증함으로써 마련될 수 있을 것이다. 하지만 ‘즐거움’의 관점에서 작품을 바라보는 학술적 논의가 아직 충분치 않아 본고에서는 우선 고전시가에 대한 몇 편의 평설들을 세밀히 분석하고, 이들 평설에서 확인할 수 있는 작품 읽기의 즐거움과 그 경로를 추적해 보았다. 평설은 일반인의 감상을 돕기 위해 쓰인 것으로 필자 스스로의 감상 경험을 바탕으로 하며, 그러한 감상의 즐거움을 다른 이들과 공유하고자 하는 필자의 의도가 내재되어 있기 때문에 본고의 문제의식을 구체화하는 데 적절한 자료로 생각되었기 때문이다. 이 논문에서 구체적으로 검토한 평설 자료는 양주동의 『여요전주』에 수록된 고려속요 <가시리>, <서경별곡>에 대한 평설과 정철과 윤선도의 시조 작품들에 대해 해설하고 있는 최진원의 『고시조 감상』, 그리고 정철의 <관동별곡>을 대상으로 한 김병국의 「가면 혹은 진실-관동별곡 평설」 등이다. 이들 평설 자료를 검토한 결과 양주동의 평설에서는 ‘마음[情]을 발견하는 즐거움’을, 최진원의 평설에서는 ‘미적 특질을 음미하는 즐거움’을, 그리고 김병국의 평설에서는 ‘체험을 공유하는 즐거움’ 등을 두드러지는 특징으로 제시할 수 있었으며, 이러한 즐거움들은 서로 긴밀히 연결된 직관의 논리화, 감수성의 발현, 그리고 삶에 대한 조응 등의 과정을 거쳐 획득된 것으로 생각할 수 있었다. 물론 분석의 대상이 된 자료가 고전시가에 국한되어 있어 이러한 분석의 결과는 아직 고전시가의 감상에 대해서만 제한적으로 타당성을 가질 수 있을 것이다. 그러나 이들 평설에 대한 분석은 문학 작품의 즐거움과 관련하여 작품이 우리 스스로를 각성하게 한다는 점, 감상자는 이러한 각성에 의해 일깨워지는 자기 자신을 느끼고, 새로운 체험을 획득하는 과정에서 깊은 즐거움을 느끼게 된다는 보편적 과정을 가정할 수 있게 해 주었다. 문학교육이 문학 작품을 통해 학습자를 삶에 대한 깨달음으로 인도하기 위해서는 깨달음 자체에 대한 강조와 아울러 작품이 주는 이러한 다양한 즐거움을 발굴해야 하며, 이러한 즐거움을 학습자들이 몸소 체험할 수 있는 다양한 경로를 학습하게 해야 한다는 것이 이 논문이 강조하는 바이다.
Abstract
This study pursues to explain the pleasure of literature and the way of enjoying it. But there are a few studies which deal with the pleasure of appreciation, because many studies of literature still concentrated on the understanding of the literature itself. The theory of this subject has not been built up yet. So I tried to begin with the analysis of Pyungseol[평설]; writings with the purpose of introduction for the normal appreciator. Because these writings was based on the appreciation of the writers themselves and written to share the pleasure with many people who did not have the pleasure. The writings which this thesis deals with are pyungseol of ‘Kasiri’(가시리), pyungseol of ‘Seogyeongbyeolgok’(서경별곡), ‘appreciation of Sijo’, and pyungseol of ‘Gwandongbyeolgok’(관동별곡). They were written by prominent scholars. Each of these writings shows that there are ‘leasure of finding the mind’, ‘the pleasure of tasting the aesthetic value’, ‘the pleasure of sharing the experience’. And I found that these pleasures were derived from ‘the logical conversion of intuition’, ‘the using of sensibility’, and ‘corresponding with the real life’. I confess that this analysis only deals with limited samples. But I think that this analysis makes it possible to assume some hypothesis about the appreciation of literature; literature makes us to arouse, fill, and have another experience. This should be the general process of appreciation. If the Education of literature could introduce the students to feel the pleasure of appreciation of literature and recognize the truth of life, it must present the various pleasures of appreciation of literature to the students and try to they can learn the ways of appreciation. That is what I want to emphasize to the literary teachers and scholars.
