치악산 꿩(까치) 보은(報恩) 완형담의 의미 고찰

본고는 원주 치악산을 배경으로 한 <은혜 갚은 꿩(까치)> 설화의 변이형을 검토하여 이 설화 완형담이 무엇인지를 재구하고 그것의 구조적 의미를 살폈다. 이 설화의 변이형에는 세 유형이 있는데 일반적인 유형에는 서사 논리의 비약이 있음을 발견하고 이를 해결하기 위해서 지역적 상관성을 고려하여 <상원사의 신종> 설화와 함께 재구하였다. 그리고 그것의 구조적 의미가 무엇인가를 대립적 구조를 통해서 밝혔다. 치악산의 <은혜 갚은 꿩(가치)> 설화의 완형담이 담고 있는 의미는 단순한 보은의 수준을 넘어서는 것으로 파계와 탐욕 그리고 복수라는 부정적 의미와 측은지심과 자비 그리고 보은이라는 긍정적 의미와의 대립을 통해서 악의 징치와 선의 보상을 드러낸 것이라고 했다. 그리고 종소리가 울리지 않음은 종소리가 났으되 단순한 소리에 지나지 않는 것이라면, 종소리가 울렸다고 하는 것은 단순한 소리가 아닌 구원의 소리라는 것을 상징하는 것이라고 했다. 그리고 설화의 이면에 있는 이런 의미들이 찾아져야 설화가 새로운 스토리텔링의 원천 소스가 될 것이라고도 하였다.
Abstract
In this thesis were examined on the theme and recomposition of a pheasant(magpie) requital narrative. For this purpose I was reviewed a lots of versions of this type. I found that there is a jump on the narrative-grammar in the general type of this narrative for the theme to be requital. To solve the inconsistency in this paper it was attempted to recompose the pheasant of requital with the magic-bell of Sangwoen temple. And then it was analyzed the structural meanings of the type to be recomposed. The theme of the general type is requital, but the meanings of the type to be recomposed are not simple but more profound. It was showed disciplinary of evil and compensation of good through the confrontation of the negative meanings like the break the Buddhist commandment, avarice, revenge and the positive meanings like the compassion, charity, requital. And I said that it means the sound of bell did not ring is not to be heard as the sound of the salvation. Finally in this paper it was also presented that the interpretation about this narrative can be helped for the story-telling.
