한국인의 반중 정서는 미국 등 서방의 대중국 인식과 동조화되어 있다. 이는 서구 중심적인 지배 담론에 비판적인 시각의‘비판적 중국학’(Critical Sinology)의 역할이 제한적이었음을 시사한다.‘비판적 중국학’은 주로 중국 내부의 관점으로 중국 을 이해함으로써 서구 중심적 해석의 오류를 극복해야 한다고 주장해 왔다. 하지만, 이제 지구적 자본주의 체제의 중심 국가가 되고 대내적으론 시민사회의 저항을 탄압 하는 모습을 보이는 중국을 연구하는 데는 새로운‘비판적 중국학’의 시각이 요구 되었다. <방법으로서의 글로벌 차이나>는 이런 차원에서 만들어진 시각이다. 그러나 본 고는 이것만으로 부족하다고 주장하며 상술한 문제의식에 더해 연구대상과 연구 주체로서의 지역(local)의 사고를 결합해야 한다고 주장한다. 한국의‘비판적 중국학’의 대안적 방향으로‘방법으로서의 글로컬 차이나’를 시론적으로 제시한다. 특히 본 고는 부산의 사례를 중심으로 이를 논의하고자 한다.
Abstract
Koreans' anti-China sentiment is in line with how the US and other Western countries see China. This shows that “critical Sinology,” which takes a critical view of Western-centric dominant discourse, has had a limited role. Critical Sinology has argued that China should be understood primarily from an internal Chinese perspective in order to overcome the errors of Western-centric interpretations. However, as China has emerged as a central nation in the global capitalist system and has shown a tendency to suppress civil society resistance domestically, a new perspective on Critical Sinology is now required to study China. “Global China as a Method” was created from this perspective. However, this paper argues that this is insufficient and asserts the need to combine the above-mentioned awareness of issues with local thinking as both the subject and object of research. This paper tentatively proposes “Glocal China as a Method” as an alternative direction for Korean “Critical Sinology.” In particular, this paper discusses this issue with a focus on the case of Busan.
