초록
There has been an increase in online murder threats in South Korea following the random knife attacks in 2023. As these threats continue to rise, threats against public figures have also become more frequent. This surge has heightened social anxiety; however, legal measures remain insufficient. Even when the authors of these posts are identified, enforcing legal punishment remains difficult and penalties tend to be overly lenient. To address this issue, the Ministry of Justice is pursuing legislative amendments to establish explicit criminal penalties for public threats. With the growing number of online murder threat posts, the need for linguistic analysis in threat assessment is evident. This study examines online murder threat posts based on the felicity conditions of threatening and classifies them into eight levels of directness, taking into account the characteristics of online communication. It provides a linguistic framework that contributes to legal assessments of threats and discussions on legislative reform.
