Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide a useful framework for adifferentiated approach to readers theater in primary English education. For this purpose, previous research studies about readers theater havebeen analyzed in detail and suggestions for effective implementation ofreaders theater in primary English education are listed. Many classroomresearches have proved that readers theater yields improvements instudents’ language skills and has positive effects on learners’ confidenceand motivation. However, whether readers theater has been implementedproperly in the primary English education is still questioned, due toundifferentiated teaching models and lack of variety of reading scriptsand activities. To enliven readers theater in the primary Englishclassrooms and get a fruitful outcome from it, the following suggestionsshould be considered. First, readers theater is recommended to beconstructed priorly for reading fluency. Second, developmentalappropriate and compelling reading texts full of rhymes and alliterationshould be chosen. Third, visual and aural aids are recommended foryoung learners’ dramatic experience. Fourth, emergent readers arerecommended to join readers theater. Finally, readers theater should beimplemented with a long-term plan because the benefits of readerstheater may not be immediately apparent. Based on the suggestions outlined above, readers theater is expected to be an authentic, entertaining, and educationally powerful way to teach young language learners.
