Abstract

Process drama is a dramatic experience through teacher-students interaction, proceeding without a script. Unlike previous and present drama class, in which rote-memorization and passively repeated utterance have been usually expected, it is a comprehensive dramatic activity, in which learners communicate what they want to and dare to say, by completing their own scripts and a series of dramatic tasks. It has the potential to engage learners to use the language for their own purposes through trial and error under the language-friendly circumstance. On the premise mentioned above, this study suggested a model for teaching English to elementary school students using the frame of process drama. It also discussed the effective teacher's role in the process of the drama activities. It concluded that well-designed drama class focusing on "process" not "product" is expected to liven up English learning and teaching and to reach ultimate objectives of English teaching in a primary classroom; communicative language teaching and learner-centered education.
