Abstract

This paper coped with the learning of Chinese characters and the acquiring of a literary context which were left by Lee Sang-soo who was active in performing ganghak (講學) activities in the Cheongju and Huiin areas during the transitional period in modern times, and Park Mun-ho, who was his pupil. The discourse was primarily focused on the issue of a literary context. Those who studied ganghak were children in a country village, who grew up mostly in a poor learning environment; thus, the issue of a literary context appeared as a problem to deal with, immediately. This was discussed in the area of ‘The Analytic Methodology of Sentences’. Also, the overcoming of the dualistic composition of words and writings drew attention. This was confirmed in 「Jaeumbokgoseol」 and 「Yidoohae」. This issue also is a product of agony in order not to lose a delicate sense of a literary context. This was discussed in the area of ‘The Korean Style Reading of Chinese Characters’. Regarding these two issues, the pieces of their agonies were restructured and their status in terms of academic history was estimated.
