Abstract

The purpose of this article is to find out how the Hanshi research field can contribute to the understanding and utilization of Korean classical poetry in high school Korean language and literature textbooks. Korean language and literary textbooks based on the 2009 revised curriculum utilize some of Hanshi as a resource for understanding Korean classical poetry. Although it appears in the text, it is mainly used as an aid in learning activities, and it does not make full use of various learning elements related to Hanshi. By paying attention to various approaches of Hanshi field, it is possible to expand understanding and utilization of Shijo. The role of the Hanshi field for Korean classical poetry education is accessible in three directions. First, Hanshi poetical diction and rhetoric method can be used to understand and utilize Korean classical poetry. With the image of various poetical dictions, 'Yeoungchin' rhetoric approaches an artistic effect of Shijo. And the possibility of application in the field such as thesis expansion and theme delivery method can be considered through comparison of the closing methods of Shijo and Hanshi. Next, we can think about the understanding and application of Korean classical poetry based on basic thinking of Hanshi. The circulation theory of the Book of Changes, which is the basis of Hanshi works, the ancient‐worshiping idea, the degenerative historical view, or the Neo‐Confucianism world view, etc. can contribute to the understanding and educational use of Korean classical poetry. Finally, the reference value of Hanshi for understanding Korean classical poetry was examined. It was confirmed that Hanshi data by theme and period can play an important role in helping the three‐dimensional understanding of Korean classical poetry works and to complete the image of literature in a period. The Korean classical poetry and Hanshi field should find out the contents and methods suitable for the education field while referring to and adjusting each other's achievements in research and education.
