한국인 대학생들의 영어 말하기에 나타난 문법 오류 분석

본 연구는 한국인 대학생들의 영어 말하기에 나타난 문법적 오류를 분석하고 수준별 차이점을 고찰하기 위해 시행되었다. 실험 참가자 80명의 학생들은 두 가지 유형인 사진 묘사와 질문에 답하기로 구성된 말하기 과제를 각각 수행하였고, 수집된 자료에서 산출된 오류는 6개의 문법 범주와 45개의 하위 문법 범주들로 분류되어 오류 수와 오류 비율이 산출되었다. 오류 발생률이 가장 높은 10개의 문법 범주들에 대해 학습자의 영어 능숙도에 따라 수준별로 오류 양상을 비교하였고, 모국어인 한국어의 영향을 고려한 오류의 원인도 함께 규명하였다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면, 전반적으로 명사구와 동사구에서 가장 높은 오류 발생률을 보였다. 수준별 오류 분석에서는 초급 학습자들이 중급 학습자들보다 전반적으로 더 많은 문법적 오류를 발생시킨 것으로 나타났다. 또한 초급 학습자들은 언어 간 전이 현상이 많이 나타난 반면에 중급 학습자들의 오류 유형은 언어 내 전이가 많은 것으로 드러났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze English grammatical errors made by Korean university students in their speaking. Data was collected from 80 students who completed two speaking assignments consisting of free response and picture description question types. The errors were identified and classified into one of six major grammatical categories and one of 45 subcategories. Then, the number of errors and the error percentages were calculated. This study focused on the ten subcategories with the most errors. These ten subcategories were compared by level (basic vs. intermediate), and then, the sources of errors within these ten subcategories were determined. Overall, the results showed that most errors were found in the noun phrase and verb phrase groups. In regards to the level of fluency, basic level students generally made more errors than intermediate level students in a majority of the subcategories. This study also showed that basic students made more transfer errors while intermediate students made more intralingual errors.
