초록
This paper investigates how the reconstruction of the Japanese national identity and the memory ofcommunity were developed after the Asia-Pacific War, by analyzing “repatriation” discourse just after thedefeat of Asia-Pacific War. “Repatriation” discourse is reflected the recognition of history and a form of thememory for colonial (occupational) domination and the Asia-Pacific War: in Japan’s postwar, and containthe process to still promote a transformation of the memory construction. From that viewpoint, this paperfocuses on “repatriate problem” and the narratives for child generations, especially, focusing on “Wakaremichi”(Turning point) by Nobuo Ishimori, published serially in a magazine for children in the soon after the defeatof the Asia-Pacific War . “Wakaremichi” is the story which describes “Manchurian” a brother and a sister’s journey from Changchunto Hiroshima of with their mother and their school life after repatriation. Throughout the story, avoidanceof narration, construction of moving story, and a plot intended to create a new “hometown” of “Japan” werebuild up. This paper examines that the process of reconstructing memory of community based on egocentrismand self-deceiving works on these factors.
