초록
Amidst the rapid advancement of AI technology, this study integrated ChatGPT into novice L2 writers’ take-home writing assignment and investigated their perceptions. The writers used ChatGPT to receive feedback on their writing for revision. After ten weeks of the writing assignments, an online survey was conducted to examine students' perceptions of the activity. The survey included Likert-scale questions assessing students' perceived benefits of using ChatGPT in their writing, as well as problems and difficulties they encountered. The survey results underwent factor analysis, supplemented by an analysis of students’ responses to open-ended questions and their ChatGPT chat history. The findings demonstrated overall positive perceptions on the use of ChatGPT for L2 writing, largely attributed to its interactive nature. ChatGPT's instant responses provided personalized feedback, addressing various writing issues and empowering students to improve their writing independently. This appears to contribute to perceived improvements in L2 writing proficiency, learning autonomy, and confidence. However, concerns were raised regarding the reliability of ChatGPT-generated content, challenges in formulating questions, and issues of plagiarism. Practical implications of the findings were discussed.
