본 연구는 생성형 AI(ChatGPT)를 활용하여 일본문화 교육프로그램을 개발하고, 대학 일본어 전공 학습자를 대상으로 문화 간 의사소통 역량(Intercultural Communicative Competence, ICC) 함양 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. CLE(구성주의 학습환경 설계 모형)와 Byram(1997)의 ICC 이론을 기반으로 프로그램을 설계하고, 전문가 타당화, 프로그램 수정·보완, 실제 수업 적용 및 효과 검증의 절차를 거쳐 연구를 수행하였다. 프로그램 적용 결과, 학습자의 ICC 전체 역량과 하위 영역(지식, 태도, 기술, 인식) 모두에서 통계적으로 유의미한 향상이 나타났다. 또한 학습자 심층 면담 결과, 생성형 AI 기반 상호작용이 학습자의 몰입감, 자문화 성찰, 이문화 이해 및 상황맥락 기반 표현 전략 습득에 긍정적으로 기여함이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 생성형 AI를 활용한 일본문화 교육이 학습자의 문화 간 민감성과 실질적 소통 역량 강화를 효과적으로 지원할 수 있음을 실증적으로 제시하였으며, 향후 AI 기반 외국어 교육 및 다문화 교육 프로그램 개발에 유용한 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
This study aimed to develop a Japanese culture education program utilizing generative artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) and to verify its effectiveness in enhancing university students’ intercultural communicative competence (ICC). Based on the Constructivist Learning Environment (CLE) model and Byram's (1997) ICC framework, the program was systematically designed, validated through expert reviews, revised, and applied in an actual class setting. The application of the program revealed statistically significant improvements in students' overall ICC and its subcomponents (knowledge, attitude, skills, and awareness). In addition, in-depth interviews with participants demonstrated that interaction with ChatGPT promoted learner immersion, self-reflection on their own culture, understanding of other cultures, and acquisition of context-appropriate communication strategies. This study empirically demonstrated that AI-based Japanese culture education programs can effectively foster learners' cultural sensitivity and practical communication competence, offering meaningful insights for the development of AI-integrated foreign language and intercultural education programs in the future.
