세계유산이란 유형의 탁월한 보편적 가치를 지닌 유산으로 인정되어 유네스코 세계유산목록에 등재된 유산을 의미한다. 그 유형으로는 자연유산, 문화유산, 자연유산과 문화유산의 특징을 모두 보유한 복합유산이 있다. 이와 같이 문화와 자연현상을 모두 포함하는 세계유산은 지리학의 특성과 맞물리며 지리학자들에게 주요한 연구주제중의 하나가 된다. 특히 세계유산은 장소자산인 동시에 지역공동체와 밀접한 연계성을 지니며, 문화경관 및 세계유산교육을 통해 지속가능한 교육을 이룰 수 있는 주제이다. 바로 이러한 주제에는 지리학의 가장 중요한 연구영역인 지역연구, 지역내외의 연계성, 지역연구 방법론뿐만 아니라 계통지리학의 모든 분야가 포함되어 있다. 따라서 지리학자들의 세계유산에 대한 지속적인 관심이 기대된다.
Abstract
The 'World Heritage’ is regarded as the tangible heritage inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list with being recognized its outstanding universal value, and categorized into Natural, Cultural, and Mixed Heritage. World Heritage concerning natural and cultural aspects is similar to the definition of Geography and might be the important research theme for geographers. Especially, World Heritage is related to the theme such as the place property, tight relation with local community, concerning cultural landscape, and World Heritage education with sustainable education. Such these themes are not only regional study, networking within the area and research methodology of regional study, but also all fields of systematic geography. Therefore, it is expected that geographers’concerning on these themes of World Heritage is sustainable.
