초록

An attempt was made to develop a dance performance competence test which can reliably and validly quantify dancers' competence of dance performance. For this purpose, the term of dance competence was conceptually defined on the basis of review of related literature, followed by drawing theoretically the determining components of dance competence theoretically. In order to ensure the empirical validity of the derived components of dance performance competence, an empirical approach was taken, in which an open-ended questionnaire was administered to a selected group of dance experts(n=20) and then the raw data was qualitatively content-analyzed. The results of content analyses yielded two sets of factors ; one consisting of five factors of movement skillfulness(sequencing, phasing, form, grading and harmony) and the other consisting of four factors of movement artistry(aesthetic aspects, expressiveness, originality and focusing). Nineteen items were developed, representing each of the nine qualitatively derived factors, and then were administered to a group of dancers, dance experts, and dance psychologists(n=91). Based on item analyses, a preliminary form of dance performance competence scale(DPCS) was developed. The developed scale was proved reliable(α=.992) and valid with a .796 of concurrent validity. A multiple regression analysis revealed a high predictability(R=.810) against school dance accomplishments. In total, the developed DPCS was proved satisfactory in measuring dancers' performance competence. It was recommended, however, that a factor analytic approach was necessary in order to further ensure the validity of the developed scale, along with a provision of a norm on the basis of which dancer's performance competence is aptly compared.
