영조(英祖) 재위기의 씨름 고찰: 영조실록과 영조 대 승정원일기를 중심으로

본 연구는 영조 재위기의 씨름을 고찰하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 자료수집은 국사편찬위원회의 한국사데이터베이스를 이용하였다. 검색키워드는 ‘角力(각력)’, ‘角觝(각저)’, ‘角抵(각저)’ 등이다. 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영조실록과 영조 대 승정원일기에는 9개 원문에 각저(角抵, 角觝), 각저희(角抵戱) 등으로씨름이 기록되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 씨름과 관련한 장사 기록이 처음 존재하였으며, 씨름 장사는 윤창주와 조두흥이다. 셋째, 영조는 92세 노인에게 씨름을 시켰으며, 단오에 씨름을 못 하게 하였다. 청나라 칙사는 조선에 방문하여 방수, 별감, 중금에게 씨름을 시켰고, 비변사에서 국문을 받던 차이황은자신의 종 유골이 씨름을 잘 한다고 말하였다. 또한, 고려 충혜왕과 관련한 사료를 한림학사에게 읽게 한기록에는 충혜왕이 본궐에 행차하여 관람한 각저희 등에 관한 기록이 있었다. 영조 재위기의 씨름 고찰을 통해 장사, 윤창주와 조두흥 등의 의미 있는 자료들을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine Ssireum during the reign of King Yeongjo. Data was collected using the Histroy of Korean History provided by the National Institute of Korean History. Keywords for the search included 角力(gakryeok), 角觝(gakjeo), and 角抵(gakjeo). The conclusions are as follows: First, in the Yeongjo-Silok and Seungjeongwon-Ilgi for King Yeongjo's period, there are nine original records mentioning ‘gakryeok(角力)’, ‘gakjeo(角抵, 角觝),’ and ‘gakjeohui(角抵戱)’. Second, the earliest records of Jangsa related to Ssireum appear, with Changju Yoon and Duhung Jo being notable Jangsa. Third, King Yeongjo made a 92-year-old elderly man wrestle and banned Ssireum on Dano Day. Additionally, when a Qing Dynasty envoy visited Joseon, officials such as Bangsu, Byeolgam, and Junggeum were made to wrestle, and during an interrogation by the Bibyeonsa, envoy Chaihwang mentioned that his servant, Yu Gol, was skilled in Ssireum. Furthermore, records about Goryeo's King Chunghye's viewing of ‘gakjeohui’ were read by a Hallimhaksa. Through the examination of Ssireum during King Yeongjo's reign, meaningful records such as Jangsa, and figures like Changju Yoon and Duhung Jo were identified.
