중등학교에서의 현대음악 감상지도 방법 - George Crumb의 작품 <Madrigal, Book Ⅰ-Ⅳ>을 대상으로 -

Abstract

Contemporary music is highly evaluated as effective educational resources as it enhances creativity and the ability to think in the process of learning. Moreover, contemporary music of the 20th century shows a wide variety of musical styles, and from the aesthetic perspective, the music frees itself from traditional stereotypes of musical aesthetics, and instead displays flexibility which allows an individual to freely express various musical aspects. This study aimed to explore teaching methods of contemporary music in middle and high schools with George Crumb’s <Madrigal, Book 1-IV>. Students of this age are cognitively capable of understanding music, and the curricula require students to be exposed to music of all generations. <Madrigal, Book 1-IV> is divided into four sections and each movement uses various characteristics, as well as unique orchestral and electronic sound techniques. Students can understand the unique musical techniques and musical trends of this period. In the 21st century in which we are living, school education on music should not only pursue traditional musical styles but also work to open new doors of the musical world. Teachers are expected to continuously enhance their teachings and understanding of contemporary music.
