예술의 교육적 가치로서의 사유: 카시러의 ‘미적 형식’에 대한 주목으로부터

최근“감성화 전략”으로 대표되는 예술교육의 주된 철학적 토대는‘감각 및 지각’을 중시하는 현상학 및 신경생리학적 경향이다. 이 글은 현재의 주된 이론적 토대에 공감하면서도 그것만으로 충분히설명되지 않는 예술의 교육적 가치 및 철학적 근거의 필요성을 제시하고 그것이 칸트 미학의 개념 중‘형식’과 관계된다는 것을 밝히고자 한다. 칸트가 말하는‘형식’은 그가 제시하는‘미적 판단’개념과 관련하여 다양하게 해석될 수 있는 개념임에도 불구하고‘형식주의’에서 말하는‘대상의 속성’으로 축소되어 해석되는 경향이 있다. 에른스트 카시러는 칸트의 미학을 계승하여 발전시키는 과정에서형식의 개념을‘사유의 과정’으로 확대하여 해석하면서, 이것을 예술의 본질을 결정하는 중요한 요인인 동시에 예술의 교육적 가치를 조명할 수 있는 주요한 개념이라고 주장한다. 결론적으로 카시러에 의하면 보다 넓게 해석된 형식은‘미적 형식’이라고 명명되는데 이것은 예술에서 작동하는 우리의 고유한‘미적/예술적 사유 과정’이며, 하나의 합목적적 대상을 구성하는 정신 능력이다. 이 글은 카시러의논조에 기본적으로 동의하면서 그의 논의를 통해 감성의 지적 측면의 성격을 고찰하고, 이러한 이해가예술의 교육적 가치를 통합적으로 설명하는 데 도움이 될 뿐만 아니라 모든 이를 위한 보편적 예술교육의 의의를 밝히는 데 기여할 수 있다는 것을 보이고자 한다.
Abstract
There has been a strong tendency toward phenomenology and neurophysiology that are focused on sensations and perceptions, as disciplinary basis for arts education these days. This paper starts with some suspicion about this tendency, while being basically sympathetic with it. For it seems not sufficient to show the educational values of arts. This paper rather assumes that the full educational significance of arts can be completed by Immanuel Kant's aesthetic idea of form. Therefore this paper aims to show one way of making this assumption be the case by reconstructing neo-Kantian Ernst Cassirer's reinterpretation of Kant's idea of form. To do so, this paper examines mainly how Cassirer's interpretation of Kant's aesthetic idea of form can show the full educational significances of arts without really hurting the perceptional and emotional virtues of arts for education. And it concludes that the aesthetic form is a mental ability to construct a purposive object without purpose through the thinking process unique to arts, which can be essential to deep emotional experiences within arts.
