본 연구의 목적은 포퍼의 제3세계 개념에 기초하여 예술의 진보 가능성과 그 제한을 검토하고 그 논의의결과로부터 예술의 교육적 의의를 이끌어내는 데에 있다. 제시된 목적에 도달하기 위해서 본 연구는 포퍼의 시행착오의 방법을 예술작품의 제작에 관한 논의에 체계적으로 적용한다. 본 연구에서의 주요 논의는 다음과 같다. 우선 2절에서는 세 유형의 세계에 관한 포퍼의 형이상학 이론에 기초하여 지식의 객관성이 논의된다. 포퍼는 세 유형의 세계 가운데 하나인 제3세계를 객관적이고 자율적인 과학의 세계로 파악한다. 과학의 세계에서전개되는 비판적 논의는 시행착오의 방법으로 특징지어지며 과학적 진보의 근거로 제시된다. 3절에서는 시행착오의 방법을 통한 문제 해결의 관점에서 예술가와 예술작품의 관계가 논의된다. 포퍼에게 있어서 예술작품의 제작 과정은 진보가 실현되는 문제 해결의 과정이다. 예술의 진보는 진리 추구와 같은 보편적 목적을 전제하지 않는다는 점에서 제한적으로 인정된다. 4절에서는 제3세계와 예술의 진보에 관한 논의에 기초하여 예술의 교육적 의의가 규명된다. 포퍼 철학의 관점에서 볼 때 충만한 의식(자아)의 지속적 형성은 교육을 통해 실현되어야 할 이상이다. 예술작품의 제작이 단일한 목적에 구속되지 않는다는 사실에 근거하여 예술은 자아 형성의 획일성을 극복하고 그 다양함을 실현하는 가능성으로 제시된다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the possibility and limitation of the evolution of art based on Popper’s concept of world 3 and identify the educational significance of the outcomes of this discussions. To this end, this study systematically applies Popper’s method of trial and error to the discussions of the creation of artworks. The primary discussion in this study are as follows. In section 2, the objectivity of knowledge is discussed on the basis of Popper’s metaphysical theory of three worlds. Popper per- ceives world 3, one of the three worlds, as the objective and autonomous world of science. Critical ar- guments unfolding within the scientific world are characterized by the method of trial and error and are presented as the basis for scientific evolution. In section 3, the relationship between artist and art- work is discussed from the perspective of problem-solving through the method of trial and error. For Popper, the process of creating artwork is a process of problem-solving where evolution is realized. The evolution of art is acknowledge to a limited extent that it does not presuppose the universal ob- jective like the pursuit of truth. In section 4, the educational significance of art is clarified based on discussions regarding world 3 and the evolution of art. From the perspective of Popper’s philosophy, the continuous formation of full consciousness(self) is an ideal to be realized through education. Art is presented as a possibility for overcoming the uniformity of self-formation and realizing its diversity on the basis of the fact that the creation of artworks are not restrained by a single purpose.
