초록
This study explicates the management process of a crisis situation (communication strategy & tactic, in particular) based on Finnish and Korean undergraduates’ case write‐ups. It investigates similarities and differences of the two groups’ recommendations for dealing with an environmental crisis (the American Electrical case, appearing in O’Rourke 1998). Major findings are as follows:First, Finnish students pay particular attention to strategies in crisis management, whereas Korean students have a tendency to focus on tactics. Second, although Finnish data tend to defend company under crisis by keeping distance between company and the source causing the environmental crisis, Korean data accommodate its responsibilities for the crisis through apology. From the pedagogical perspective, this study suggests that students should acquire knowledge far beyond business communication to manage crisis situations.
