이 글은 5.18 민주화운동을 소재로 한 『망월』, 『아무리 얘기해도』, 『지역의 사생활: 광주』을 분석한다. 이 세 편의 작품은 비체험 세대이자 점차 망각된 역사를 의례적으로 간접 체험하게 될 포스트메모리 세대를 주인공으로 한다. 재현의 불가능성, 불완전함 속에서 결국 역사적 사건은 문학적 재현이라는 기억-해석의 영역으로 존치될 수 있다. 그렇다면 이 재현의 내러티브들은 역사를 어떻게 서술할 것인가, 그리고 비당사자인 포스트메모리 세대에게 어떻게 기억하게 만들고 어떤 감정을 주조할 것인가하는 현재화의 과정, 그리고 당사자와 비당사자 간의 접점을 어떻게 마련할 것인가라는 재현의 정치를 고민할 수밖에 없다. 『망월』은 당사자인 아버지와 비당사자인 아들의 접점을 통해 역사의 현재화를 재현하며 시간, 공간을 넘어선 정동의 접점을 다룬다. 『아무리 얘기해도』는 그래픽 노블을 통한 만화적 재현의 사례를 제시함으로써 신뢰를 구축하는 방식을 채택해 사건의 진실에 다가서고자 한다. 그러나 말할 수 없는 주체들과 달리 가해자들의 역사 왜곡과 혐오가 지속되는 오늘날의 문제점을 지적하며, 이것이 불화와 연대의 불/가능성을 지속시키고 있음을 지적한다. 『지역의 사생활: 광주』은 진지함과 경박함을 오가는 관광객(산책자)의 철학을 통한 당사자와 비당사자 간의 접점을 마련한다. 들뜬 존재인 관광객이 광주라는 장소에서 우연과 아이러니를 통한 약한 연결을 만들어냄으로써 광주의 역사성과 일상성을 동시에 포착하고자 하는 포스트 메모리-광주 세대의 전략이 드러나 있다.
Abstract
This article analyzes Mangwol, No matter how much I say, and Local Private Life-Gwangju, which are based on the 5.18 democratization movement. These three works feature a generation of non-experienced people and a generation of post-memory who will experience gradually forgotten history indirectly. The impossibility of representation and the imperfections of representation are well known. In the end, historical events survive in the realm of memory-interpretation of literary representation. Then, how will the narratives of this representation describe history, and how will the post-memory generation, who have never experienced it, remember history. It is an important question of how to create feelings for them. This corresponds to the process of presenting history. And we have no choice but to think about the “politics of representation” of how to establish a point of contact between experienced and non-experienced people. Mangwol reproduces the presentation of history through the contact point between the father, the victim, and his son, who is a non-experienced person, and deals with the contact point of affection beyond time and space. No matter how much I say it, unlike the subjects who cannot be said, points out the current problem of continuing historical distortion and hatred of the perpetrators. And by presenting an example of cartoon representation through a graphic novel, the necessity of representation is emphasized. Local Privacy-Gwangju shows the philosophy of tourists who travel between seriousness and frivolity. This enables a connection through coincidence and irony. As a result, a point of contact and affection between the victim and the non-victim are established.
