Abstract
The Korean War is represented in MacArthur(1977) and Incheon(1981), which were produced and released between the late 1970s and early 1980s. However, the importance of the representation of North Korea in the films was not great. In MacArthur, which focuses on the heroic life of General MacArthur and the wars he commanded, the existence of North Korea is overshadowed by the Soviet Union and China, the main enemies of the United States and the central powers of communism. And in Incheon, which deals with the friendly relations between Americans and Koreans, the image of North Korea is depicted rather superficially through the image of the North Korean army, which is depicted as an ambiguous villain. On the other hand, in Heartbreak Ridge(1986), produced in the mid-1980s, and For the Boys(1991), released in the early 1990s, the Korean War appears in the lives of the protagonists as personal experiences and memories, as in the case of MacArthur. However, in both films, the Korean War functions as a comparison target for other wars, e specially t he V ietnam War, in t he p ersonal life story. Also, in terms of the way the Korean War is represented, both films utilize decolorized and taxidermied images. However, while Heartbreak Ridge gives it a public historical status, For the Boys creates a more lyrical atmosphere.
