Abstract

This A Dream of Red Mansions represents the pinnacle of Chinese ancient novel creation, encompassing a comprehensive and intricate plot. Ping′er, as one of the actual principals in the Jia House as well as Wang Xifeng’s common maid, is one of the most important supporting characters in the entire novel. The objective was to undertake a textual analysis of Ping′er’s character in the Gengchen version of A Dream of Red Mansions. In order to provide a basis for comparison, the character image of Ping′er as presented by modern scholars of red studies was used as a reference blueprint for exposition. This revealed Ping′er’s role in the narrative of A Dream of Red Mansions. In accordance with the tenets of personality psychology, Ping′er’s Big Five personality traits were estimated. The results indicated that her dutifulness was the most pronounced, while her agreeableness and emotional stability were the second highest. Furthermore, an investigation was conducted into Ping′er’s managerial characteristics within the context of modern managerial psychology. Her exemplary managerial style was demonstrated to align with the managerial square grid model. It is demonstrated that Ping′er’s character is emblematic of the underclass in A Dream of Red Mansions, exemplifying the archetype of the wise and peaceful individual who employs these attributes to secure their own tranquility amidst adversity. As a middle-level manager in the Jiafu, Ping′er is able to govern in a rational and easy-going manner. Her simple and fair personality traits provide readers with an objective and complete perspective of the Jiafu, reflecting the author’s values of goodwill, rationality, and governance by doing little.
