Abstract

This article mainly discusses two questions: 1. From the perspective of native Chinese speakers, what is the function of Chinese characters in Chinese expression from ancient times to the present? In modern Chinese, especially in the current era of online self-media, what are the cognitive comprehension roles and linguistic communication values of Chinese characters? The conclusion is that Chinese characters are not only a record language, but also deeply involved in Chinese expression. Chinese characters play an important role in word formation, “instant words” in context, single words (monosyllabic words) in sentences, and rhetoric. Chinese characters are of great value to the understanding and cognition of the Chinese language, and they also play a positive role in enriching the expression of the Chinese language. 2. From the perspective of Chinese as a second language teaching, what are the valuable values of Chinese characters in Chinese teaching and learning? At the same time, what are the disadvantages of Chinese characters for foreign learners to learn Chinese, which teachers and students need to pay attention to? The conclusion is that Chinese characters have great teaching and learning value in the teaching of Chinese as a second language, both from the perspective of language teaching and cultural communication, and there are some disadvantages of Chinese characters in the teaching of Chinese as a second language.
